Item 1D coordination polymer based on copper(II)-containing tetrameric 1,2,3- triazole ligand from click chemistry : magnetic and catalytic properties.(2019) Teixeira, Leonardo César de Moraes; Souza, Gilmar Pereira de; Fajardo, Humberto Vieira; Luz, Sulusmon Cesar; Álvarez, Eleuterio; Lloret, Francesc; Viana, Renato Márcio Ribeiro; Rojo Marcos, Francisco Javier; Stumpf, Humberto Osório; Figueiredo, Rute Cunha; Correa, Rodrigo de SouzaA novel tetrameric tetra[O-((1-benzyl-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)methyl)]-pentaerythritol (TBTP) has been synthesized using click chemistry strategy. TBTP was characterized and used as ligand to form new Cu(II) complexes, forming 1-D coordination polymers. Two square planar complexes were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, presenting formula [Cu(TBTP)][Cu(NO3)4] (1) and [Cu(TBTP)](NO3)2 (2). In both structures, a cationic 1-D coordination polymer (CP) has been formed. The CP contain a 1:1 Cu(II)/TBTP ratio with four neutral triazole groups coordinating the Cu(II) center, forming a CuN bonds ranging 1.988(2)–2.001(2) Å. The study of the magnetic properties of compounds 1 and 2 pointed to an antiferromagnetic behavior for both compounds, defined by inter- and intra-chain dipolar interactions among their metallic centers. In addition, the complex 1 was found to be an efficient catalyst for selective oxidation of aniline to azobenzene under mild reaction conditions.Item 2 Hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone (Lawsone) as a redox catalyst for the improvement of the alkaline pretreatment of sugarcane bagasse.(2021) Barreto, Elisa da Silva; Baeta, Bruno Eduardo Lobo; Pereira, Márcio César; Pasquini, Daniel; Guimarães, Valéria dos Santos; Gurgel, Leandro Vinícius AlvesThis study evaluated the use of a new redox catalyst (2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone, HNQ) in order to contribute to the preservation of the carbohydrate fraction and to increase delignification of sugarcane bagasse (SB) subjected to soda pretreatment, without inhibiting enzyme activity during saccharification. The effects of HNQ were compared to the well-known redox catalyst anthraquinone (AQ). A 25 1 fractional design and a 22 central composite design were used for optimization of the soda-HNQ pretreatment of SB. The use of HNQ promoted preservation of 76.4% cellulose and 86.2% hemicelluloses, as well as 86.1% delignification of raw SB, showing a superior performance than AQ. The optimized pretreatment conditions were 150 °C, 60 min, 15% (w w−1 ) NaOH, 0.4% (w w−1 ) HNQ, and a liquid-to-solid ratio of 9.6 mL g−1 . Saccharification of SB pretreated by soda HNQ yielded higher overall glucose (74.0%) and xylose (74.3%) yields compared to SB pretreated by AQ (64.9% glucose, 67.3% xylose).Item 2,2’,4-Trihydroxybenzophenone : crystal structure, and anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities.(2007) Doriguetto, Antônio Carlos; Martins, Felipe Terra; Ellena, Javier Alcides; Salloum, Rogério; Santos, Marcelo Henrique dos; Moreira, Maria Eliza de Castro; Silva, Jose Mauricio Schneedorf Ferreira da; Nagem, Tanus JorgeThe crystal structure of C 2,2’,4-trihydroxybenzophenoneD (¼(2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)(2-hydroxyphenyl) methanone; 1) was determined, and its molecular structure, along with intra- and intermolecular Hbonds, was analyzed. The anti-inflammatory potential of 1, evaluated by means of the rat-paw-edema assay, with carrageenan as inflammation stimulus, was found to be similar high as that of indomethacin. In contrast, benzophenone proper (2) was hardly active in this assay. Our results indicate that these antiinflammatory effects are related to the action of kinins and prostaglandins. The radical-scavenging properties of 1 towards DPPH were found to be similar as those of typical phenolics, but somewhat lower than that of ascorbic acid. The structure–activity relationship (SAR) of 1 is discussed.Item A 2D model of the dynamic of the collision : I 2 -polymeric liquid surfaces of perfluorinatedpolyether (PFPE), polydimetilsiloxane (PDMS) and squalane.(2007) Leal, Alexandre Soares; Santos, Cláudio Gouvêa dos; Quintella, Cristina Maria Assis Lopes Tavares da Mata Hermida; Schor, Heloiza Helena RibeiroEste artigo apresenta um modelo em duas dimensões para o espalhamento de I 2 pela superfície de líquidos poliméricos: poliéterperfluorado (PFPE), polidimentilsiloxano (PDMS) e esqualano. Item 57Fe Mössbauer effect study of Al-substituted lepidocrocites.(1996) Grave, Eddy De; Costa, Geraldo Magela da; Bowen, L. H.; Schwertmann, U.; Vandenberghe, Robert EmileSeven A|-containing lepidocrocite samples, ~/-Fe,_xAlxOOH, prepared from FeC12/AI(NO3)3 solutions with initial A1/(A1 + Fe) mole ratios C~ of 0.0025, 0.01, 0.025, 0.05, 0.075, 0.10 and 0.15 tool/ mol, were examined by means of M6ssbauer spectroscopy at room temperature (RT) and at various temperatures in the range of 8 to 80 K. The spectra at RT and 80~ consist of broadened quadrupole doublets and were analyzed in terms of a single doublet and of a model-independent quadrupole-splitting distribution, the latter yielding the best fit. The observed variations of the quadrupole-splitting parameters with increasing C i are inconclusive as to whether the A1 cations are substituting into the structure. The temperature at which the onset of magnetic ordering is reflected in the spectra, was measured by the therrnoscan method with zero source velocity. A gradual shift from 50 K for Ci = 0.0025 mol/mol to 44 K for Ci = 0.10 mol/mol was observed for that temperature. As compared to earlier studies of Al-free ~-FeOOH samples with similar morphological characteristics, the fractional doublet area in the mixed sextet-doublet spectra at 35 K is significantly higher for the present lepidocrocites. This observation is ascribed to the substitution of A1 cations into the lepidocrocite structure. A similar conclusion is inferred from the variation with C~ of the maximum-probability hyperfine field derived from the spectra recorded at 8 K and fitted with a model-independent hyperfine-field distribution. The magnetic results suggest that for the sample corresponding to Ci = 0.15 mol/mol, not all of the initially present A1 has been incorporated into the structure.Item 57Fe-Mössbauer spectroscopy on natural eosphorite-childrenite-ernstite samples.(2005) Costa, Geraldo Magela da; Cipriano, Ricardo Augusto Scholz; Karfunkel, Joachim; Bermanec, Vladimir; Chaves, Mario Luiz de Sá CarneiroSamples of the eosphorite-childrenite [(Mn2+, Fe2+)AlPO4(OH)2H2O] series from Divino das Laranjeiras and Araçuaí (Minas Gerais State) and Parelhas (Rio Grande do Norte State) pegmatites have been investigated by X-ray diffraction, microprobe analysis and Mössbauer spectroscopy at 295 and 77 K. The Mössbauer spectra of ernstite [(Mn2+, Fe3+)Al- PO4(OH)2-xOx] showed the existence of ferric ions in both A and B sites, whereas ferrous ions seem to be located exclusively in the A site. Nonoxidised samples show ferrous ions located in both sites, and no Fe3+ could be detected. The interpretation of the Mössbauer spectra of both, oxidised and nonoxidised samples, is difficult because the hyperfine parameters of these minerals are rather similar, rendering it difficult to make proper site assignments.Item 99Tc NMR as a promising technique for structural investigation of biomolecules : theoretical studies on the solvent and thermal effects of phenylbenzothiazole complex.(2014) Mancini, Daiana Teixeira; Souza, Eugenio F.; Caetano, Melissa Soares; Ramalho, Teodorico de CastroThe phenylbenzothiazole compounds show antitumor properties and are highly selective. In this paper, the 99Tc chemical shifts based on the (99mTc)(CO)3(NNO) complex conjugated to the antitumor agent 2-(4′-aminophenyl)benzothiazole are reported. Thermal and solvent effects were studied computationally by quantum-chemical methods, using the density functional theory (DFT) (DFT level BPW91/aug-cc-pVTZ for the Tc and BPW91/IGLO-II for the other atoms) to compute the NMR parameters for the complex. We have calculated the 99Tc NMR chemical shifts of the complex in gas phase and solution using different solvation models (polarizable continuum model and explicit solvation). To evaluate the thermal effect, molecular dynamics simulations were carried, using the atom-centered density matrix propagation method at the DFT level (BP86/ LanL2dz). The results highlight that the 99Tc NMR spectroscopy can be a promising technique for structural investigation of biomolecules, at the molecular level, in different environments.Item Abbreviations of polymer names and guidelines for abbreviating polymer names, IUPAC Recommendations 2014.(2014) He, Jiasong; Chen, Jiazhong; Hellwich, Karl Heinz; Hess, Michael; Horie, Kazuyuki; Jones, Richard G.; Kahovec, Jaroslav; Kitayama, Tatsuki; Kratochvíl, Pavel; Meille, Stefano V.; Mita, Itaru; Santos, Claudio dos; Vohlídal, Michel Vert and JiříThis document provides some basic rules and guidelines regarding the use and creation of abbreviations for the names of polymers. An extended list of currently used abbreviations for polymers and polymeric materials is appended. Item About the Morin transition in hematite in relation with particle size and aluminum substitution.(2001) Vandenberghe, Robert Emile; San, E. Van; Grave, Eddy De; Costa, Geraldo Magela daThe results of a MSssbauer study of the Morin transition behaviour in three series of hematite and Al-hematite samples are reviewed and discussed. The first two series comprise small-particle hematites and Al-hematites prepared from decomposition of lepidocrocite, whereas in the third series Al-hematites up to the #m range are obtained from co-precipitated oxinates. It is demonstrated that the Morin transition temperature follows quite well the overall properties of the samples such as particle size and Al substitution, while the transition region is rather determined by all kind of distributive effects. A model involving intermediate states is suggested for the Morin transition behaviour in non-ideal hematite. Item Access to 3-aroylchromanones from dibenzoylmethanes via an iron-catalyzed α-methylenation reaction.(2018) Gouveia, Ana Paula Araújo; Taylor, Jason GuyA simple and straightforward synthesis of 3‐aroylchromanones based on a tandem iron catalyzed α‐methylenation – intramolecular oxy‐Michael addition reaction of dibenzoylmethanes with N,N‐dimethylacetamide is described. The reaction employs FeCl3 as catalyst under aerobic conditions to afford the corresponding 3‐aroylchromanones and tolerates a variety of substituents on both aromatic rings.Item Acidic surface niobium pentoxide is catalytic active for CO2 photoreduction.(2019) Silva, Gelson Tiago dos Santos Tavares da; Nogueira, André Esteves; Oliveira, Jessica Ariane de; Torres, Juliana Arriel; Lopes, Osmando Ferreira; Oliveira, Cauê Ribeiro deIn this paper, we report for the first time the significant photocatalytic activity of Nb-based materials for CO2 reduction. Nb2O5 catalysts were prepared through a modified peroxide sol-gel method using different annealing temperatures, showing activity for CO2 photoreduction in all conditions. The activity and selectivity of the Nb2O5 samples were directly related to their surface acidity: high surface acidity prompted conversion of CO2 to CO, HCOOH, and CH3COOH; low surface acidity prompted conversion of CO2 to CH4. The results also indicated that CO is the main intermediate species of the CO2 photoreduction in all conditions. We have uncovered the role played by the surface acidity of Nb2O5 and the mechanism behind its performance for CO2 photoreduction.Item Activated carbons from agricultural by products (pine tree and coconut shell), coal, and carbon nanotubes as adsorbents for removal of sulfamethoxazole from spiked aqueous solutions : kinetic and thermodynamic studies.(2015) Tonucci, Marina Caldeira; Gurgel, Leandro Vinícius Alves; Aquino, Sergio Francisco deIn this study, four different adsorbent materials: commercial powdered activated carbon (PAC) from pine tree (PAC-I) and coconut shell (PAC-III) agricultural crop wastes, coal (PAC-II), and carbon nanotubes (CNT) were tested and compared for the removal of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) from spiked aqueous solutions. The kinetic, extrathermodynamic, and thermodynamic parameters for the adsorption of SMX on PACs and CNT were also determined. The results indicate that PAC-I was the best adsorbent for SMX adsorption. SMX adsorption was only favorable with PAC-I and CNT, leading to Gibbs free energies in the range of −39 to −44 kJ mol−1 and showing that the adsorption process was spontaneous in all temperature ranges (15–45 ◦C) tested. Langmuir model best described SMX adsorption on PAC-I and led to maximum adsorption capacity of∼131mgg−1 (at 25 ◦C), which was∼4.6 times higher than that observed for CNT. The mechanism of SMX adsorption on PAC-I and CNT was suggested with basis on thermodynamic and extrathermodynamic parameters. The kinetic studies showed the pseudo-second-order model best described SMX adsorption, yielding k2 values of 0.0035 and 0.0016 gmg−1 min−1 for PAC-I and CNT, respectively.Item Adjustment of the operational parameters of an unconventional integrated and illuminated internally photobioreactor (ILI-PBR) for the batch autotrophic cultivation of the Chlorella minutissima, using the taguchi method.(2020) Amaral, Mateus de Souza; Loures, Carla Cristina Almeida; Silva, Messias Borges; Prata, Arnaldo Márcio RamalhoMicroalgae crops targeting biotechnological applications are conducted in photobioreactors, which allow the adjustment and control of parameters of luminosity, agitation and mixing in the cultivation medium to promote better cell growth and accumulation of metabolites. In this sense, the present work used the Taguchi method to find the best adjustment of the operational parameters of an unconventional photobioreactor denominated internally illuminated integrated photobioreactor (ILI- PBR) with LED light aiming at elevating the biomass concentration, volumetric biomass productivity, and volumetric lipid productivity of Chlorella minutissima microalgae cultivated under autotrophic regime. The effects of the factors were evaluated: illumina- tion (blue, white and red); photoperiod (12 h light:12 h dark, 1 h light:1 h dark, and 24 h clear:0 h dark); aeration (0, 3 vvm, 0.4 vvm, and 0.5 vvm); and recirculation flow rate of cultivation medium (5 L min−1, 6.5 L min−1, and 9 L min−1) on the variable responses: biomass concentration, biomass volumetric productivity, lipid content, and volumetric lipid productivity. The use of the Taguchi method allowed the increase of biomass concentration, volumetric biomass productivity, and volumetric lipid productivity in the biomass of Chlorella minutissimain 8.6%, 42%, and 143%, respectively, with the adjust- ment of the operational parameters of the photobioreactor used. Item Adsorption of Cu(II), Cd(II) and Pb(II) from aqueous single metal solutions by succinylated twice-mercerized sugarcane bagasse functionalized with triethylenetetramine.(2009) Gurgel, Leandro Vinícius Alves; Gil, Laurent FrédéricThis study describes the preparation of two new chelating materials, MMSCB 3 and 5, derived fromsuccinylated twice-mercerized sugarcane bagasse (MMSCB 1). MMSCB 3 and 5 were synthesized from MMSCB 1 using two different methods as described by Gurgel and Gil (2009). In the first method MMSCB 1 was activated with 1,3-diisopropylcarbodiimide and in the second with acetic anhydride (to form an internal anhydride) and later both were reacted with triethylenetetramine in order to obtain MMSCB 3 and 5. New obtained materials were characterized by mass percent gain, concentration of amine groups, FTIR, and elemental analysis. MMSCB 3 and 5 showed mass percent gain of 19.9 and 57.1%, concentration of amine groups of 2.0 and 2.1 mmol/g, and nitrogen content of 5.8 and 4.4%. The capacity of MMSCB 3 and 5 to adsorb Cu2þ, Cd2þ, and Pb2þ from aqueous single metal ion solutions was evaluated at different contact times, pHs, and initial metal ion concentrations. Adsorption isotherms were well fitted by Langmuir model. Maximum adsorption capacities of MMSCB 3 and 5 for Cu2þ, Cd2þ, and Pb2þ were found to be 59.5 and 69.4, 86.2 and 106.4, 158.7 and 222.2 mg/g, respectively.
