    Mechanical properties and microstructure of epoxy mortars made with polyethylene and poly(Ethylene Terephthalate) waste.

    The article describes the results of a study to determine the simultaneous effect of polyethy- lene terephthalate waste (PET) and polyethylene (PE) on the strength characteristics and bulk density of epoxy mortars. In these mortars, 9 wt.% of the polymer binder was replaced by glycolysate which was made from PET waste and propylene glycol. Additionally, 0–10 vol.% of the aggregate was substituted with PE agglomerate made from plastic bags waste, respectively. The modification of the composition of epoxy mortar has a special environmental and economic aspect. It also allows to protect natural sources of the aggregate, while reducing the amount of waste and reducing problems arising from the need to store them. The resulting composite has very good strength properties. With the substitution of 9 wt.% of resin and 5 vol.% of sand, a flexural strength of 35.7 MPa and a compressive strength of 101.1 MPa was obtained. The results of the microstructure study of the obtained mortars constitute a significant part of the paper.

    Assessment of the mechanical parameters of resin composites with the addition of various types of fibres.

    The article describes tests of epoxy mortars after the addition of fibres. The fibres were a substitute for sand in the amount of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5% by volume, respectively. Three types of mortar were obtained, containing polypropylene, glass and carbon fibres, respectively. Statistical analyses (ANOVA) were carried out to assess the impact of fibre content on the mechanical properties of mortars. Brittle fracture toughness was also tested using the Cracked Straight Through Brazilian Disc method. The addition of each type of fibre improved the assessed parameters. Based on the obtained research results, and also due to availability and price, the most advantageous seems to be the production of composites containing the addition of polypropylene fibres.

    Effects of waste glass as aggregate on the properties of resin composites.

    The article describes tests of epoxy mortars containing waste glass, which was a substitute for sand in an amount of 0 to 100% by weight. The application of the method of planning the experiment using a central composition plan enabled the obtaining of full information about the effect of the modifier and the amount of resin on the mortar properties. Thanks to the use of the general function optimization method, a mortar composition was also determined that allows the obtaining of the most favourable values simultaneously for all determined parameters. The obtained mortars containing waste glass have very high flexural strength values at the level of 22.55–27.73 MPa and compressive strength in the range from 68.67 MPa to 96.65 MPa as well as absorbability below 0.73%. The analyses and conclusions were confirmed from the structural point of view by SEM micrographs.
