In order to address the education of the city, we situate it in the process of social and political changes in Minas Gerais, which took place after the quick development of the Rio das Mortes region in the late 18th century. We highlight Campanha as the protagonist of this process and the constitution of a territorial identity that originated the idea of the South of Minas as a specific region. We present some particularities of education and the people in the schools. For this, we highlight its specificities, especially when compared with other regions of Minas Gerais.
