    Technological characterization of metapyroxenite of the Córrego dos Boiadeiros Formation, Nova Lima (MG), Brazil.

    Rocks and industrial minerals are raw materials employed in the production of a wide variety of products, used by modern society. The same mineral or industrial rock can have several applications, depending on their physical, mineralogical and chemical characteristics. The present study had as its objective, the technological characterization of a metapyroxenite sample, belonging to the Córrego dos Boiadeiros body in the Quadrilátero Ferrífero, MG (Brazil) in order to verify its possible industrial applications. For this research study, X-ray fluorescence chemical analyzes were performed, which determined the following oxides: 0.06% TiO2, 8.2% Fe2O3, 24.1% MgO, 2.1% Al2O3, 48.7% SiO2 and 1.8% CaO. In the mineralogical characterization by X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy, SEM / EDS and thermogravimetry, the following minerals were identified: antigorite, chlorite, chromite, ilmenite, magnetite, rutile, talc and tremolite. For the preliminary concentration tests, the material used (-147μm) presented 32% of the particles in the fraction -37μm with d50 in 74μm. The 3575 Gauss magnetic field and the particle size fraction -74μm generated a mass recovery of 96.4% and a whiteness of 61.9% for the non-magnetic product. Although no talc enriched products were generated by preliminary magnetic separation tests, the non-magnetic products presented specifications for the following applications: paper (wallpaper and packing), insecticide and fertilizers.

    Microwave aquametry according to ASTM D4643-17 for moisture determination in iron ore tailings.

    The gradual increase in the exploitation of iron ore leads to a need for the disposal of tailings from its processing. One of the key features of a granular system stacked is its moisture content. This work aimed at evaluating the use of microwave oven to determine the moisture content (following the ASTM D4643-17 standard) of iron ore dewatered tailings, for fast assessment of the geotechnical condition of every stacked layer on disposal areas. The preconized method has showed good agreement with the conventional oven method (standard assay), resulting in linear equation with coefficient of determination of 0.9953. However, the recommended method has shown less accuracy in the range of low moisture values (below 5 %), which does not represent a critical disadvantage from the point of view of geotechnical safety. The economic impact of the method advocated here will be great, since the movement of large volumes of tailings in limited areas leads to customary downtime, often resulting from waiting for confirmatory analytical results to practice within the safety limits.

    Caracterização e prospecção de grafita do Complexo Jequitinhonha.

    O advento da tecnologia do grafeno vem destacando ainda mais a importância da grafita no panorama industrial moderno, tornando esse mineral estratégico. Os novos campos de sua utilização tornaram a explotação de grafita cristalina (flake) economicamente atrativa. Os gnaisses kinzigíticos do Complexo Jequitinhonha contêm mineralizações de grafita e têm sido objeto de estudos recentes. A compreensão do comportamento da mineralização por meio da caracterização permite o avanço nas técnicas para sua prospecção e exploração. Estabelecer a influência dos contaminantes do meio geológico e as características que esses conferem à mineralização é importante para a padronização dos procedimentos de prospecção e beneficiamento. Este estudo permitiu determinar o padrão resistivo/condutivo da mineralização em função de seus contaminantes, estabelecendo as características inerentes à mineralização de grafita que permitem padronizar critérios de prospecção e posterior utilização industrial do minério.
