Item Paepalanthus (Eriocaulaceae) in the Central Espinhaço Range in Minas Gerais, Brazil : checklist, endemism, and nomenclatural changes.(2018) Costa, Fabiane Nepomuceno da; Andrino, Caroline Oliveira; Sano, Paulo Takeo; Oliveira, Marcelo Trovó Lopes de; Andrade, Livia EchternachtWe describe and illustrate three new species of Paepalanthus (Eriocaulaceae: Paepalanthoideae) from the Espinhaço Range: P. argyrotrychus, P. farinaceus and P. velutiphyllus, all endemic to Serra do Ambrósio, a mountain disjunct from the Espinhaço Range in the municipality of Rio Vermelho, Minas Gerais, Brazil. These species belong to Paepalanthus ser. Paepalanthus (=Paepalanthus [unranked] Variabiles). We provide detailed descriptions and illustrations for each taxon, as well as comments on habitat, distribution, morphology, conservation and their affinities to the most morphologically similar species.Item Paepalanthus magistrae (Eriocaulaceae), a remarkable new species in honor of Ana Maria Giulietti-Harley.(2015) Sano, Paulo Takeo; Costa, Fabiane Nepomuceno da; Oliveira, Marcelo Trovó Lopes de; Andrade, Livia EchternachtItem Revisiting Paepalanthus subsect. Polycladus (Eriocaulaceae) : re-circumscription, nomenclatural notes and description of a noteworthy new species.(2019) Oliveira, Marcelo Trovó Lopes de; Andrade, Livia Echternacht; Sano, Paulo Takeo; Costa, Fabiane Nepomuceno daPaepalanthus subsect. Polycladus was proposed based on a few and incomplete specimens of P. polygonus. In this manuscript we re-circumscribe the group, include the remarkable new species Paepalanthus lychnophorellus and exclude P. grao-mogolensis, providing also a complete description of Paepalanthus polygonus. One new synonym is proposed (P. spiralifolius = P. polygonus) and one lectotypification is designated (P. polygonus). Paepalanthus subsect. Polycladus is compared with morphologically similar taxa. An identification key, illustrations, photographs, distribution maps, and comments on the distribution, habitat preferences, conservation and taxonomy are provided for the two species of the subsection.Item Taxonomic study of Comanthera subg. Thysanocephalus (Eriocaulaceae).(2015) Andrade, Livia Echternacht; Sano, Paulo Takeo; Dubuisson, Jean YvesComanthera consists of 41 species grouped in two subgenera. Both subgenera are restricted to South America and include most of the species of Eriocaulaceae used commercially as everlasting plants. Molecular and morphological phylogenies have revealed the genus and both its subgenera as monophyletic, but relationships among species have yet to be investigated. The last revision of Comanthera subg. Thysanocephalus is more than one century old, and the recognition and circumscription of taxa are still poorly understood. The present work aims, therefore, to study the taxonomy of C. subg. Thysanocephalus. Herein, descriptions of the genus and subgenus are provided along with identification keys for the subgenera and species. This taxonomic treatment proposes 17 new synonyms, excludes three taxa, and designates four lectotypes. One new species, Comanthera dimera, is described and illustrated, one variety is elevated to species status, C. angustifolia, and one species is resurrected with a new combination, C. tricostata. Nine species are accepted with no sub-specific ranks, yielding a total of 35 species in the genus Comanthera. Comments on phenology, habitat, and distribution, along with diagnoses, taxonomic notes, and distribution maps are provided.Item Three new micro-endemic species of Paepalanthus (Paepalanthoideae, Eriocaulaceae) from Serra do Ambrósio, Minas Gerais, Brazil.(2016) Costa, Fabiane Nepomuceno da; Andrino, Caroline Oliveira; Oliveira, Marcelo Trovó Lopes de; Andrade, Livia Echternacht; Sano, Paulo TakeoWe describe and illustrate three new species of Paepalanthus (Eriocaulaceae: Paepalanthoideae) from the Espinhaço Range: P. argyrotrychus, P. farinaceus and P. velutiphyllus, all endemic to Serra do Ambrósio, a mountain disjunct from the Espinhaço Range in the municipality of Rio Vermelho, Minas Gerais, Brazil. These species belong to Paepalanthus ser. Paepalanthus (=Paepalanthus [unranked] Variabiles).
