Em relação a classificação final do campeonato o efeito foi encontrado nos jogadores “medalhistas” do sexo masculino (χ2=8,28; p=0,041) e feminino (χ2=9,43; p=0,024) e nos jogadores das equipes “intermediárias” do sexo masculino (χ2=13,08; p=0,004).Item Effect of periodization on the physical capacities of basketball players of a military school.(2019) Lauria, André de Assis; Werneck, Francisco Zacaron; Ribeiro Junior, Dilson Borges; Vianna, Jeferson MacedoBasketball is a sport modality that imposes important physiological loads on players during competition. The aim of the study was to verify the effect of training with wave periodization on the physical capacities of athletes. Explosive strength of lower limbs; aerobic resistance; maximum strength of upper limb; and resting heart rate (HRrest) at PRE and POST moments of 16 athletes submitted to a 4-month training period were evaluated. The internal training load was monitored by the method proposed by Carl Foster in each training session. Statistically significant differences were observed in VO2max of 50.5± 4.9 vs. 54.0± 6.1 ml/kg/min (p <0.000), in the vertical impulse of 39.1± 5.9 cm vs. 44.7± 5.9 cm (p <0.000), 10 RM on bench press 40.4± 9.4 vs. 48.0± 8.9 kg (p <0.000) and in HRrest 66± 4 vs. 60± 5 bpm (p <0.000). The average internal training load was 751± 249 AU. It was concluded that school basketball athletes submitted to training macrocycle with 4-month wave periodization improve the strength of lower and upper limbs, also presenting positive adaptations in aerobic conditioning. Item Relative age effect in Brazilian Basketball Championship : under 15 players.(2017) Oliveira, Helder Zimmermann de; Ribeiro Junior, Dilson Borges; Vianna, Jeferson Macedo; Werneck, Francisco ZacaronIn sport, the relative age effect (RAE) refers to the advantages of participation and performance that athletes born in the first months of the selection year have in relation to those within the same age category. The aim of the present study was to investigate the RAE in athletes of the Brazilian Basketball Championship of the U-15 category in 2015, analyzing differences between sexes, geographic region, competitive level and performance of teams. The information of teams and the birth quarter (quartile) of 530 basketball players were obtained through the website of the Brazilian Basketball Confederation (www. cbb.com.br). The results showed greater representation of male athletes born in the first months of the year, the first and second divisions, of the Southeastern, Northern and Mid-Western regions and in female medalists. It was concluded that the RAE is present in Brazilian U-15 male basketball players, being higher in athletes of higher competitive level, particularly in the Southeastern, Northern and Mid-Western regions of Brazil. In addition, RAE proved to be associated with the winning of women’s medals.Item Relative age effect in Olympic basketball athletes.(2016) Werneck, Francisco Zacaron; Coelho, Emerson Filipino; Oliveira, Helder Zimmermann de; Ribeiro Junior, Dilson Borges; Almas, Saulo Peters; Lima, Jorge Roberto Perrout de; Matta, Marcelo de Oliveira; Figueiredo, António José BarataObjective. — To investigate the relative age effect (RAE) in Olympic basketball athletes, related to sex, continent and country. Methods. — The sample was composed of 300 athletes who have competed in the London 2012 Olympic Games. Athletes’ date of birth was split into quartiles (trimester of born). For data analysis, Chi2 test was used with the level of significance set at 5%. Results. — The RAE was not observed by the analysis for sex and continent. However, the RAE was found in French athletes ( 2 = 11.333; P = 0.01), with more athletes born on the second quartile. We can conclude that the RAE is not present in Olympic basketball athletes, except on those French ones.Item Talent development in basketball : a perspective from Brazilian coaches.(2021) Ribeiro Junior, Dilson Borges; Vianna, Jeferson Macedo; Oliveira, Hélder Zimmermann de; Coelho, Emerson Filipino; Antúnez, Antonio; Werneck, Francisco ZacaronThe coach plays a central role in the identification, selection, and development of talent. The aim of this study was to investigate into the opinions of Brazilian coaches about the importance of different factors for the development of young basketball players. A total of 94 coaches from different clubs and with diverse professional experience are administered a questionnaire on anthropometric, physical, technical, tactical, psychological, and environmental characteristics. On a scale of 1 (not at all important) to 5 (extremely important), the coaches indicated to what extent a factor/indicator of athletic potential was important for the development of a young basketball player. Repeated measures ANOVA showed that, in the coaches' opinion, the technical and physical factors were the most important in relation to the other factors for the development of young basketball players, with differences according to the playing position. Most coaches considered the following indicators of the sporting potential as extremely important: Shooting skill, passing and individual defense technique, speed, agility, and lower limb strength. The coaches also considered tactical skills, especially positioning and decision-making, as well as the quality of practice and psychological skills (confidence, withstanding pressure, concentration, dealing with adversity, coachability, and determination) to be extremely important. The relevance of these indicators varied according to the competitive level of the coaches (international vs. regional/national). Our results can potentially help coaches in the process of identifying and developing talents for the Brazilian basketball.
